  My job allows me to work from any library - I just need power and 3Mbps on my hotspot. I had never been to Manly library before. Pursuant to my work I made a few phone calls. There are no signs to indicate the acceptability of that so I didn't think much of it. A few phone calls latter I got from a young lady who had been typing fast and loud for the last few hours an abrupt "Library". I had a similar reprimand from an old lady who was looking for books on a shelf - perhaps I had been breaking her concentration. You need to know that on Level 1 they are utterly draconian about no use of mobile phones being permitted. I understand this near the desks for computers but the same policy applies near the newspaper reading area which I think is ridiculous. I spoke about this to the head librarian and she was open to my feedback and although we did not agree on all points it was an amicable and mature conversation.

  Interesting how different the culture is from one library to another – Pennant Hills library is a similar space to level 1 at Manly. PH is a complete free-for-all with kids screaming phones, naughty paid tutors and the sound of karate lessons from the adjacent hall.

  Manly Library has good selection of books, magazines and DVDs. They have a regular JP (Justice of the Peace) service and access to computers, wifi, printing & copying services.

  Friendly, helpful staff, calming and pleasant atmosphere. Nicely decorated, with a large and broad stock of books, audio, magazines, etc. One of the best libraries of it's type I've used.
